I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference between someone who can do something and a professional who's trained and experienced in doing the same thing is significant. A mental health professional can help you in a new way – they teach you new skills, provide different perspectives, listen without judging you, and guide you to listen to yourself better. Counselling is also completely private, so you don't have to worry about others knowing your personal issues. Lastly, if you've been sharing your problems with a friend or family member and start feeling better, you might avoid them to avoid being reminded of your tough times.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medicine can help, but it can't solve everything on its own, along with counselling it may be an option to provide stability and give you time to improve your coping skills or develop new ones. Before deciding on any medication, it's important to educate yourself about your choices and how they might affect you. Our goal together is to talk about and understand the problems you're facing, and focus on your strengths to help you achieve your personal goals. 

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Since everyone has different problems and goals for counselling, each session will be unique to you. I customize my approach to fit your specific needs. 

How long will it take?

It's difficult to give a general answer on an FAQs page. How long counselling will take depends on your personal situation—how much you want to grow personally, how dedicated you are, and what reasons brought you to counselling in the first place. Everyone's circumstances are different.
